Now

Inspired by Derek Sivers, this page includes a sample of what I’m thinking about and working on right now. Last updated April 12, 2026.

Spring is here, despite the weather going from hot to cold and cold to hot every couple of days in NC. The pollen is in the air and we just ran out of tissues. Which Alanis Morrisette would call irony but is really just an unfortunate coincidence. It figures.

Speaking of irony, the president that Christians helped to win the White House is now sending his Pentagon officials to threaten the Catholic Church.

One U.S. official present at the meeting brought up the Avignon papacy, a period in the fourteenth century in which the French monarchy bent the Catholic Church into submission, ordering an attack on Pope Boniface VIII that led to his downfall and subsequent death and forcing the papacy to relocate from Rome to Avignon, a region inside France.

Lord have mercy on us as we trudge through the times in which we live.

As for myself, I have been attending a wonderful Anglican Church (ACNA) now that the Orthodox parish I was a part of has gone way beyond capacity. I’ve joked about it in the past, but honestly, the number of people attending services there is surely illegal and most certainly dangerous. I won’t go into the things that have bothered me about the Orthodox Church here (along with all the beautiful things), but I will say that I’ve felt very at home among the Anglicans. The church itself is like a little country parish. I feel like I should be reading The Vicar of Bullhampton.

I am trying out WordPress again as a part of my blogging journey. Though I’ve long had issues with that platform and most recently with their move away from blogging and into trying to be everything websites, I appreciate the flexibility it offers. While Ghost is geared towards one very specific use case by which you are using blogging and email to monetize your audience with memberships, WordPress acknowledges different needs that bloggers may have. The theme that I’m using, Kanso, feels like a hybrid between a blog and a social media site. That’s kind of what I’m looking for as I want to control my own content but not look upon each post as an essay. If things work out, I will transfer my main domain (CannedDragons.net) to the new blog.

My wife recently had a milestone birthday and we are now AARP members. We took some time to spend at Dix Park in Raleigh seeing the trolls in celebration.
